Recently bought/played: Quake 4, Doom 3. These games are all much the same to me. You start at the start and end at the end.
You are the mega-hero, and Earths only hope for salvation. Lucky for Earth you've got the largest pair of nuts ever to hang off a mammal,
or we'd all be zombies/robots/luncheon meat - whatever the latest threat turns us into.
Despite my seemingly negative attitude, I do like playing these games and they keep me amused for a while.
