The mother of a woman arrested for slashing a man during sex and attempting to drink his blood said her daughter suffers from mental illness and takes crystal meth.
Tiffany Sutton, 23, is behind bars accused of tying up a man in a Tempe home, stabbing him a dozen times and allegedly saying she wanted to drink his blood. After that he allegedly ran and she chased him with a pick ax.
Sutton's mother, Lorrie Hanneman, said her daughter is homeless, suffers from mental illness and is taking crystal meth.
Hanneman said her daughter is a victim and the system has failed to get her the help she needs.
Hanneman also said she isn't surprised her daughter stabbed someone.
"I knew it was coming," Hanneman said. "I told the police officer I talked to on the last time that she's become a danger to herself and others. She's not afraid to die right now. I honestly believe she wants to die, so I just keep waiting for that phone call that she's dead."
Police said Sutton was under the influence when the incident happened.
Hanneman said her daughter should not be on the streets.
"If I can"t help her, then she belongs in jail where she can't hurt somebody else. What else can I do? I can't leave her out to kill somebody else's kids. She has no concept of reality anymore."
