Your point about the startup status is valid, but you must also remember that because of Miranda's architecture, this functionality could be easily implemented in a plugin (and in fact is, look up the StartupStatus plugin). I am not one for lots of plugins. I use the following:

Because each protocol keeps track of one account only, this is the reason I have IRC, IRC2, Jabber, Jabber2 etc. Yes, I thought the same thing as you have probably - "Why can't one protocol plugin keep track of n accounts?".. I've gotten use to it.
