I work at a college. The point of me staying, or being asked to stay is because I, as the rest of the employees, are familiar with the area, I can say, no, that box is new, or nah, that box with wires poking out the side was left there by my coworker. Basically, someone familiar with the terrain can easily point out things that are amiss. If I can help find something suspicious faster, I will.
However, for me, its voluntary, and it should be voluntary, there should be absolutely no pressure involved, especially with loosing your job that is crossing the line.
