There are several possibilities to look into. All of the various sensors, such as the oxygen sensor in the exhaust, throttle position sensor, Idle air control, things like that. other things worth checking, have your timing belt replaced, if it is becoming warn the valves wont be opening and closing at the optimal times. Dirty fuel injectors could reduce mileage also. Also, it could be several of these things together, that while minor by themselves can add up.
