No, my opinion is that it is in the best interest of those in politics, republicans and democrats, to have their constituencies sharply divided, thereby assuring blindly ideological voting blocs, thereby further marginalizing third party politics. Your observation that republicans and democrats get along better at work than does the voting public is both true and fits nicely into my personal theory that for the media business the promotion of political turmoil is opportunistic, and for the politics business itself, it is a matter of job security and maintainance of the DC status quo.
