Attractions? The attraction for me has been the city itself, it's architecture, music and food. I was never impressed by the tourist traps, but, I fear, those are probably in full force and likely what was up and running before any of the historical places such as the Cathedreal and Cabildo.
I would just walk around and take in the visual.
I was there for a brief convention last month. It still held the same charm to me.
I'd more veer to the Quarter for the ambiance rather than the strip joints or bars, or to the New Orleans Museum of Art and the surrounding City Park.
