Oh heavens! I don't "yard" my dog. I walk him twice a day and pick up after his "neighborhood decorations." Other times he's with me in the house. When I'm at work he roams the house. He's got enough confidence so he doesn't have to tear up the house or destroy stuff when I'm away. Albert is a good dog.
I've seen folks who "yard" their dogs and it's not plesant at all. When they get delinquent in poop detail the yard starts to look pretty sad. Even if they keep up - there's always the hidden surprise you find on occasion ... but that's the same with outdoor cats, I suppose.
