for motorcycles there are saddle bags that one can mount, one has to just keep the storage balanced as they would for a pedal bike.
as far as a car is concerned, you'll need to give more details based on what money you have to spend. Also, there's insurance, maintenance, and gas. Four wheel drive for camping would be more expensive all around.
