You know, I've always felt the expression "Penny for your thoughts?" works better in the opposite direction. In other words: "Would you like something interesting (the metaphorical penny) to think about?."
The first time it was put to me, I said "Okay.", and sat their like an idiot assuming some opinion was forthcoming. That was awkward.
I'm with Angus on this one. Where's ma penny?
