I thought the New Super Mario Bros. was supposed to be a nod towards the original Super Mario Bros. from the NES, not the SNES. The original didn't have flying either. I guess many younger people (I am only 21  ) may not have knowledge of the NES version 
oh and right now I am playing many games. Of course WoW, replaying Final Fantasy IV and VI on my SNES (it looks kinda crazy on a nice TV), and Ris of Legends which is pretty cool.
