What happens if they are bad parents and shun you and kick you out of the family for your views? It's the same reason people don't bring up that they like people of the same gender, that they are in porn, or that they are in a interacial relationship. In a perfect world, your family would be accepting, or would come around in a few months. But, there are families who will never talk to their children again, or at least that is what my fear is. I'm not sure how often that happens.
