Well, I will say the
historical Jesus may not have been a fan of homosexuality, but it does seem it wasn't a particularly important issue to him. Regardless of how common it was in the area, he certainly would have known of its existence. The real concern though has less to do with what the
historical Jesus thought than it has to do with what makes sense with the Jesus of faith. And that's where the point comes in that, ultimately, the message of Jesus is simply that of love, and there's no reason a responsible homosexual relationship shouldn't fit into that paradigm.
