This thread does not belong in Nonsense and shouldn't have been moved here. I put it in Playground because the desired responses to each post are the next lines in the correct lyrics to the song. It's a game, not nonsense. A stupid song that probably only the old farts around here would know.
But it doesn't matter anyway. Since the opening lyric is "It was the third of June" then the game has to be finished before midnight. It's already dead.
Here's the finale:
A year has come 'n' gone since we heard the news 'bout Billy Joe
And Brother married Becky Thompson, they bought a store in Tupelo
There was a virus going 'round, Papa caught it and he died last Spring
And now Mama doesn't seem to wanna do much of anything
And me, I spend a lot of time pickin' flowers up on Choctaw Ridge
And drop them into the muddy water off the Tallahatchie Bridge
Oh well.....so much for fun. Close it and lock it.
**sigh**
My apologies to Maleficent for the snippy post and snippy PM about this thread. If you'd imagined an old guy yelling, "Hey you damn kids, get off my lawn," it would have sounded exactly right.
Stupid of me.
Luckily, I know of no other songs or poems that begin with "It was the fourth of June...."
