Picture this: You're lonely and unsatisfied with your relationship, but you don't want to leave it. The right thing to do would be to end the relationship you're unhappy with, or talk to your partner and try to work out your problems. However, if your will power isn't that strong, and you're presented with an opportunity, you might cheat.
Other people might do it for different reasons, though. I don't know.
