For the longest time, TFP Moderators were adamant that they would not put up any threads or forums that might be construed as a popularity contest. The idea of publically praising members of this site would lead to cliques and hierarchies. The point, the purpose of TFP is the discussions, the quality posts... But this thread is the antithesis of everything I just wrote... This thread is a popularity contest. This thread is about people, not quality posts... This thread says "look at me! I deserve attention because of something I did." Like it or not, it divides TFP members into the two categories; those that do and those that don't. It's like saying this is the cool group and this is the loser group. Cool people donate. Losers don't.
So what? you ask. I just don't think it's fair. I know that this Forum needs donators to keep it going. I accept that and I understand that. I know that this thread is a way of publically bringing the donation issue, which is a major issue, to the forefront. I just don't like the way it's done. I think you could have continued posting Halx's public service announcements and having the moderators gently reminding the members to donate. If you say that just wasn't working and this was the logical next step, then fine, I guess. I just think it's a poor way of doing it.
I know I risk the wrath of the mods here. I'm bracing for it. But I just want you to know that I think that everyones opinions should be welcomed and considered, even if you don't like them. And I also ask you to be fair and considerate to those who voice their opinions.
