It doesn't say mama can't
hold baby. It just says baby can't have medical tests performed on it and that nobody (including mama) should speak to it. I can imagine various ways in which this might be beneficial, but I don't actually have any reason to believe that this way is any better or worse for baby (or Katie) than the way most people give birth in American hospitals, with or without pain medication.

I find this ridiculous, too, but only because of the
