I'm not saying we don't have any world class athletes, though I'm not sure there were that many world records broken - I can only think of two in the pool (Leisel Jones and the womens medley relay). I have to add a caveat - I really didn't watch too much so there may be many others - so will be happy to be corrected
Games records? This actually shows the level of mediocrity we are talking about. When you start sub-setting the people who can set a record, you are always going to have a few performers who stand out. In context it looks less impressive (especially when you compare some of these records to the world records)
