yeah 9 years... and you should know that 9 years normally means a maximum of 6 years inside (unless he commits further crimes while he's in prison) in the UK... and realistically he'd probably be out in 5 if he is good.
I would guess, without the article I read giving a lot of detail, that there must have been other evidence that she was drunk and fell on her own... but regardless I have no comprehension for such a light sentence.
In all honesty, I dont really support the death penalty and I dont normally call for retribution as a form of justice... but if this guy was just killed, really who would complain? who would care? That somebody's reaction to a child injured and in desperate need of help would be to deny her the medical care she needed so that he could rape her while she was unconscious... it is fathomless, obscene. When an individual behaves not as a human, can they forfit their right to be treated as one? I dont know. It is a reaction based on disgust, but in my gut I really do feel that some crimes can be so appalling as to justify the abolition of the perpetrator.
I wouldnt ever support torture or spectacle as a punishment, even for the worst crimes, but some things seem so inhuman, and to evidence that the person who did it is so utterly detached from human decency that they are beyond redemption, that I do start to see an argument to simply exterminate them.
When this guy is out in 5 years, will he be rehabilitated? How can someone so indecent ever be reconciled to humanity?
