If I ask AVG v7 free to scan eicar.txt it finds a virus, as it should. If I change the extension to doc, jpg, gif it still reports a virus if I scan the file. If I change the extension to bat, it does not report a virus when I try to run it or if I ask AVG to scan it.

This does not seem right to me.

Sending this infomation to AVG by email or posting on their forum is not easy.
