You don't cruise in the gulf of Alaska it's called the "inside passage" on the southeastern panhandle. Pick up a map and find it for yourself. It always irks me when people screw up facts about my home state.
Get it right.
As for things to do, since you've never been before bring lots of film or extra MB chips for your digital camera and a way to dump them somplace when they get full. (becasue they will) Lots of scenery and wildlfe will be in view as the crew of the ship will stop in different places showing you Alakska history and the towns that helped kick off the gold rush. And I don't know where in the lower 48 you're coming from but you might want to bring warm clothes if you're from Arizona, Florida or anyplace where it really doesn't get cold. Even in the summer in Alaska it cools off at night and if you're not used to it you'll claim that you're freezing when its 50 degrees out. Happens every year when the tourists come to town. Other than that, do more research on the web and enjoy you trip in the great land.
