After some soul-searching, we decided to get the following 'wow' gifts for our kids:
my: 16 y/o son: Sandisk MP3 player (1 GB)
13 y/o son: Nintendo DS mariocart bundle
8 y/o son: Nintendo DS pacman bundle.
We spent the fall term of school really drilling them about focusing and managing their time. All three got excellent report cards (the oldest got 98% in physics!!!, the middle got 100% in swimming - wow) so we relented on the harsh attitude viz the gaming.
