From a strictly psychological standpoint, it's feasible.

It's mind over matter. We've created such strict guidlines mentally, that our body just adheres to them.

A great example of this is how we all are born with the ability to breath underwater. Well, we lose that ability a short period after birth. But theoretically, if we were to leave the newborn in water, it would adapt, since it has the ability. But if we take a person who is older, it's almost impossible to adapt. Its because we have these mental limits.
I think we can break them though.
