Three men have been arrested in London by the Metropolitan Police in connection with the shootings of two women police officers in Bradford.
They are being held following a robbery at a travel agents in the West Yorkshire city on Friday.

Pc Sharon Beshenivsky, 38, died after being shot in the chest, and Pc Teresa Milburn, 37, was shot and injured.

Earlier, a man and a woman were also arrested in London and were being taken to West Yorkshire.

A West Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: "Further to information released at press conference this morning about the arrest of a man and woman in London, another three men have been arrested this lunchtime in London by Metropolitan Police officers.

Flowers have been placed at the scene of the shooting
"All five remain in custody and the Metropolitan force are continuing to assist West Yorkshire Police in their ongoing investigation."

A Scotland Yard spokeswoman said the three men were being held at separate police stations in London.

The two officers, who each had less than two years' experience, were shot as they were called to a travel agents in Morley Street in Bradford city centre following reports of a robbery.

Pc Beshenivsky was declared dead at Bradford Royal Infirmary.

Her colleague Pc Milburn is in the hospital with a shoulder injury which is said to be non life-threatening.

Giving more details of the raid, Det Spt Andy Brennan said that shortly after 1300 GMT on Friday three men entered the travel agents to make inquiries about purchasing tickets. They had a gun and a knife.

Daughter's birthday

He said the three men jumped over the counter and one member of staff was struck with a firearm across the head.

A quantity of cash was stolen from but it is not yet known how much.

Pc Beshenivsky had been a community police officer for two years before becoming a police constable in February 2005 and lived with her family in a converted barn in Keighley, West Yorkshire.

She had three children and two step-children, and was killed on her youngest daughter's fourth birthday.

West Yorkshire's Chief Constable Colin Cramphorn said Pc Beshenivsky joined her patrol team in Bradford in May after completing her training and was described as "an enthusiastic, mature and very positive colleague."

He added that Pc Milburn, who comes from a large family in the Bradford area, had previously been a machinist and was hoping for a "complete change" and "new opportunities" in joining the force.

Home Office minister Hazel Blears rejected calls for the police to be routinely armed.

"It is important that the police have a very close relationship with the public and for them to routinely carry guns might put that relationship at risk," she said.

I do hope that they've caught the killers, scum is all i can call them.
