How about the life and times of a guy. Just some random guy. It would be real artsy, and you would probably win.
Why make a movie if you don't have a concept of your own? Just to do it? I can respect that, but it won't be "Your movie" unless it comes from your heart. One thing I know for sure... audiences can tell if something has the passion of the people making it, and they can also see if someone is just 'phoning it in'.
How about a post-apocalyptic piece where all technology is gone/all the oil is gone and your hero finds a survivor and they learn to live together, and deal with old social stereotypes and new realities? It could be humorous, it could be romantic, it could be action-packed...
Anything you want to make it. Just go for realism when setting things up. don't cheap out and put everyone in rags and dirty faces. Research ancient cultures and their downfall; research survival techniques.
