Exactly. The band's name has nothing to do with anything music related; normally it's just made up (with not a lot of significance to anything) and has nothing to do or is not meant to represent anything in their music.
Also i can understand an overuse/addition of "The" - it normally helps identify what you're "specficially" talking about. Although this is unfarily taken out of context, if i was to say "I like Gorillaz" and "I like The Gorillaz", you can more easily identify with the latter, as when you put "The" in front of the name/term it looses it's generality ie talking about ape-like creatures
However counterpoint again, if someone purports the name to be something it isn't, in a (formal) debate of such about the bands correct name, then this fretting would justified; albeit if some yahoo DJ says "The" in front of the name, you need not be too fussed with it. Just play the music... if it's good
