It's incredible how diverse and effective these phishing scams are. I once heard tell of a woman who got a phone call 'from Mastercard' offering her protection against just such a scam for pennies a day. And of course, they just needed the card information to verify that they were talking to the card holder...
You're lucky you caught on quickly and took the appropriate steps. Never give out personal information in any sort of unsolicited contact, no matter who they claim to be. If you think it may be legit, go back to the main website and find an email address or phone number. Get in touch and find out.
