My son, while not as big as yours, was also bigger than most kids his age. By 6 months he was 20 lbs, and I forget how many inches. I took him out of the infant carrier at that time (mostly, because I could not carry him in it any longer. Too heavy for me). I used a convertible car seat, that was still able to be rear facing and then once he had more support in his neck, I turned it front facing. He quickly outgrew that and is now, at age 3, in a high back booster seat. (For comparison, my daughter was in the car seat until she was 4 and used the high back booster seat until she was almost 6). I do not have a brand to recommend, it will depend on what you are willing, or able, to pay. I would look for one with the 5 point harness, and one that can last long (look for a large weight range). For the high chair, we had one that had several positions. as he got older and more sturdy, we started to straighten it more. It was not long before we bought a booster seat/high chair that attached to our dining room chair.
Lots of luck to you. I found that he outgrew things much faster than I expected. It seems like forever ago that he was in a high chair, now I am potty training him!
