As somebody who has had staff working for him in the past: you're actually doing your boss a big favor to have him in the loop about this. What would suck for him is for you to keep it under your hat and then give two weeks' notice, and leave him shorthanded. You would give two weeks' notice, right?

I'm a firm believer of play your cards close to your vest, especially when there is nepotism or favoritism involved. I definitely give the honorable 2 weeks notice, but sometimes tipping your hand can get you shittier shifts, worse working conditions. It all just depends on your boss and how much you trust him.
