I think the front pocket comment is one of those "girly-man" sort of insults. Tough guys carry their wallets in their back pocket with a chain attached to it. Girly-men play it safe.
I carry my wallet in my inside jacket pocket or in my backpack. I also have a very slim leather card holder that I put essentials in for going out or... I just carry ID in my back pocket and cash in one of my front pockets. It's the keys and coins that are the real hassle. Lots of coinage in Canada.
I really enjoying this cashless society thing. I can pay for just about everything with my credit or debit card so carrying wads of cash doesn't even make sense anymore. I ALWAYS carry a bit of cash though, cause you never know.
