Holy crap! I guess we just have killer insurance rates or something. We have a '95 Subaru wagon that we paid $180 every six months for, so around $30/month. We just added a 2000 BMW Z3 2.3 and qualified for a multiple car discount. Now we pay $160 for the Subaru and another $180 for the BMW, I think. Full coverage on both comp/coll./liability. Oh, and check your deductible too. If you have a $250 deductible, you are getting taken to the cleaners. Anything under $500, you aren't going to want to make a claim anyway. Every claim you make is either going to A) drive up your insurance rates for more than the claim or B) cause the insurance company to refuse you coverage. Ask your agent for a quote on your current insurance with a $500 deductible. I think it should help. Also consider how much coverage you really need. Do you need to have 250K/500K coverage? Or will 100K/300K or 50K/150K be enough?
I will say that I am married, 31 y/o, since that certainly factors into it. If I was paying $2000+/year for insurance I would have to seriously consider not owning a car. That is just crap!
