I've used CVS cedega before. It was OK, still didn't work for the two programs I downloaded it for (Monkey Island 3 and 4

).
I believe the difference between CVScedega and cedega is that the pay version comes with some code to emulate copy-protection. Not sure about the whole direct3d drivers thing, haven't heard about it before.
Counterstrike's a pretty popular game, so I'm guessing there are plenty of resources out there for getting it to run on wine/cedega. From a quick google for 'counterstrike linux -server',
this came up, which looks pretty useful.
