That is why there is no prayer... that and public govt schools have no place even TOUCHING religion. If students wanna gather on their own time outside of the school's money/time, that's fine.

I realize that not everyone would feel comfortable doing this... but I went to a Catholic high school for two years. Every morning, and at the beginning of most every class, we would pray. Towards the end of my time there, I was an Atheist, (ironically, attending a religious school made me a non-believer
) but I still pretended to pray. I crossed myself, repeated Hail Mary, etc. It was just meaningless words to me, so what did it matter? I was able to blend in just fine. It wasn't until the next year that I "came out" as an Atheist, though my parents still don't know.
As far as being a fanatic... I don't think I'm really a fanatic about anything. I tend to keep my mouth shut and listen. I'm a far-left liberal and one of my friends is a far-right conservative. He says that I'm a good liberal because I don't force my beliefs on others. I think that's a pretty good endorsement of non-fanaticism.
