There are
two volumes:
The Return and
Story of the Year. The Return starts in the middle of the run of Supreme, but you don't need any background. It works well as a first issue. It's a big plus if you're familiar with the silver age Superman, Superboy, and Justice Leage comics, as the story in Supreme is s deconstruction of those, and at the same time, a loving recreation of them.
Yep. I have the complete run of Promethea in trade. I've also got a full run of Tom Strong from the beginning, which I enjoy even more.
