Yes, shame on Canada, all you Canadians should be shamed. Because the prosecution bungled their evidence, and because CSIS doesn't clearly label phone tap tapes that are supposed to be used as evidence, all Canadians are shamed.
You know, I can understand that you are obviously and understandably upset, but this case is not MY doing. Consider the following:
-There will be an appeal, and the inevitable public inquiry into the Crown Prosecution's complete mishandling of the case.
- Apparently, BECAUSE of CSIS and the Crown's mishandling, the entire case was based on hearsay. When I live in a country that convicts based on hearsay, THEN I'll be shamed.
- We handled a criminal terrorist case sans torturing, unlawful confinement, or any other unsavory means. Apparently we had lots of evidence too; pity none of that made it to the trial.....
You know what; I'm upset about the results of this trial as well. But your anger is very misguided. You can harp on the money spent, but I'm a Canadian that would rather spend the money than have a half-assed tribunal or need to torture people to edict confessions. You can harp on the 115 witnesses, but I'm pretty sure you can find 50 people who said they've heard me say "I'll kill you" to someone. You DON'T convict from HERESAY. Beyond a reasonable doubt, remember? That silly thing called justice we're all suppose to love and live for?
You want to be angry?? Be mad at CSIS. Be mad at the Crown Prosecutor. But don't bloody well be mad at my country, that’s plain ignorant.
Light you've made some posts that I really agree with, but this is..... I'm not even sure of the word. And you know, I was listening to CBC radio 1's coverage of the victim's family statements. They seemed to have a better grasp on where the blame lay here than you.
Now, that being said, I've warned you all before that I'm not as eloquent as some of my peers here in parlaying my opinion. And I'm also sure I'm in the minority here. So let the flame war begin.
