Cheeks knew he was on his way out, but he wasn't going to resign. Now that he was fired, he stills earns a paycheck for the rest of the year. He was well liked, but that didn't correlate to getting his team to play cohesively. The Blazers have been constantly shuffling their roster the last couple of seasons, and it hasn't worked. Unfortunately, you can't just fire all the players.
I would have liked to see him stay to finish out the season, but it isn't shocking or appalling. Coaches often get the boot when it really isn't their fault, that’s the business.
Paul Allen spent a boatload of money, and put together a damn good team several years back. They were 15 points ahead and one quarter away from the NBA Finals, almost got the job done. Last year they didn’t make the playoffs, for the first time in forever. They aren't a bottom feeder yet, and they have some contracts coming off the books this summer.
