This event started as a brainchild of my buddy Brandon, and his boss at work. It was supposed to be a small VW/Audi event - advertised via VWvortex - where us owners of such cars would bring in a few toys to help out the kids, as well as chill and talk about cars in a parking lot.
Low and behold, word of the even spread like Chlamydia at a UCSB party. A few weeks before the event, we had RSVP's from car clubs such as the
Ferrari Owner's Club, Lamorghini clubs, Cooper's, BMW's, Porches, SoCal G35, SoCal 350z, SoCal R32, and many many others, along with the originators [ourselves], the SoCalDubbers.
The two oganizers mentioned above knew they had a huuuuuuge event on hand, so plans quickly changed to "control" mode. Local police came out and helped. LA Daily News came out, as well as Fox 11 news to document the whole event to the media. The Marines showed up [Toys for Tots is a Marine Event] with their awesome Marine Hummer, while KIIS FM provided tunes for the roughly 1200+ cars that were there.
What we had anticipated to be a 100 car tops VW/Audi event, ballooned into the most amazing Car Show ever. We collected a RIDICULOUS amount of toys for the children who need it to have a great Christmas. There were raffles from 20+ companies who generously donated car parts and services to the huge crowd.
Now that you've read about this great event, you're probably thinking if I took my camera?
