improvisation can become a really complex game if you move out from the idea of "jamming"---running into players who approach it from different angles/backgrounds can be one of the most interesting things about being in a university space. i would look at it as an excuse to push your horizons, your abilities. fool around with making constraints. copy a kandinsky painting and use it as a score. get a copy of cornelius cardew's "treatise" and try to figure out how to play it. abandon reliance on chord changes. train yourself into "dissonance"
