Yeah, well, Anakin does this right in front of the "kidnapped" Palpatine.
Maybe Palpatine wanted Anakin to win, and had a hand in the fight, so to speak.

That is a destinct possibility. I had considered that, but dismissed it as fanaticism. Good to know it's logical.
