I would have to be another that agrees using any drug is not a good way to escape, psychadelics in general are the absolute last thing you want to do for that kind of stuff, next to something like heroin that is.
As for the memory thing, ive known and i myself have done a fair share of hallucinogen tripping and not one of us had our memory damaged.
A friend of mine goes through huge amounts of marijuana and when he does mushrooms does lots and has a better memory than almost everyone i know.
