Burning multisession DVDs: Windows XP and Nero questions
I was hoping someone could learn me on the topic of multisession DVDs.
I'm not even sure if multisession DVDs are what I want to do.. I basically just want to burn some files onto a DVD, then come back to that DVD at a later time to add more files. I don't want to replace any files, just add new ones. I seem to recall that with burning CDs, you didn't have to do multisession CDs to accomplish that, you just had to make sure not to "finalize" the CD. But when burning DVDs, Nero doesn't let me control whether the DVD gets finalized: if I have "No Multisession" selected, the "Finalize DVD" box is checked and grayed out. So that seems to leave me with doing a multisession disc.
But I get some flakey results with the multisession discs I've tried to burn. I guess my first issue is this: when I tell Nero to "Continue a multisession disc", it gives me a dialog where I should "Select a track to continue with multisession writing." I assume I want to select the latest one, correct? But what are the effects of selecting a different one?
Now in the part where I select what files to burn, it also shows the files that are already on the disc. Some of the files' icons have red X's on them... what does that mean?
And lastly, after burning some new files onto a DVD that already had files, I can't get those files to appear in Windows Explorer. I see the old files, but not the new ones. But, when I try to "continue multisession disc" on that same disc in Nero, Nero *does* see the new files I burned and lists them accordingly. What does that indicate?
Sorry if this is a bit longwinded... any help is appreciated!
