It could be from seeing a dead child, no older than my own two year old son. As a parent, we have a very deep and basic instinct to protect our children. I know I would give my life to save my children and when I see an event like this it reminds me how vunerable I am to chance. When I see a parent look for the there dead children, I think, what if that were me. I guess being a father, I have the hunter protector instinct.
