Even if the guy was less than graceful about the confrontation (it doesn't come easy for normally reserved people), maybe think about being friendly and starting a conversation next time. Instead of rehearsing how to protect the ego. Turn it into something better. Always works better in the long run, even if it takes a couple tries. (he'll go home thinking "hmmmm") Your dog might even have a little less "pinch anxiety".

See I can see where you and Selfdestruct are coming from but walking my dog? I suppose in some places there may be many criminals who disguise themselves as dog walkers and then break into people houses while sparky keeps a lookout on things outside but I certainly haven't heard of any...least not the places I've lived at. I wasn't gonna try and have polite idle chit chat with the guy cause I could tell right away he wasn't gonna respect me. He didn't want to be buddy buddy he had intentions...so if I rehearsed anything it was "How can I tell this guy as nicely as possible to leave me alone, and I'm doing nothing wrong without offending him or bringing him to anger." I even apologized when he said "Well find another alley!" My dog certainly doesn't trust strangers either and I couldn't have had any control over what he mighta done if the guy actually got in my face. This is a problem in America...one person wrongs you and suddenly everyone is a suspect...some little bastard stole our rake from our yard but I don't go giving every kid around the neighborhood an ugly look like "You the little shit that stole my rake?!!" I suppose he figured my dog and I were just going to run off with his 500 pound barbeque pit he had placed back there..or maybe the fire wood ya know how hard that is to come by and felt obligated to defend his alley...or maybe he doesn't like shit in his alley..cause ya know he must walk through there all the time ya doing his duty of interrogating viscious dog walkers n all. I'm sure he barbeque's a lot during the winter time too! I know my family does! All the time..couldn't think of a better time of the year to do it thats for sure! I can see trying to excuse, explain, justify, etc. his actions I certainly did but it doesn't change the fact that I got harrassed for nothing and he put himself in harms way for nothing and we both got nothing to show for it.
Asta!!
