i think even when i was a kid, however, what i thought my parents should ethically do, and what they were legally bound to do are different things. i don't know that i would have ever tried to take them to court for eavesdropping on me or going through my stuff, because well...it's their house. i might have been tremendously angry at them, and i might have felt they overstepped their bounds - I don't recall ever yelling at them about the 4th amendment or anything.
as i said, the only argument i can see is that the pedophile boyfriend had some expectation of privacy when he called into the home...but in my opinion if you're an 18 year old guy chasing down a 14 yr. old girl, you've pretty much got to expect that her parents might be checking in on things.
