Actually, I'm exempt from doanting blood as I am in the pheresis program at my local blood services. For those of you who are unaware, pheresis is where they take blood out, seperate it into components and take either just the plasma, or just the platelets, or both, and give everything esle back. For plasma it takes about 4 times longer than a blood donation, for platelets it can sometimes be close to two hours.
The beautiful thing about it is that since you don't have to go throught the time consuming process of creating red blood cells, you can donate plasma and/or platelets every two weeks or so.
so, I don't give blood, I dontate plasma and platelets instead. It's a bit more work, and somewhat more time-consuming, but it's a pretty cool thing, and much in demand.
