On the NPR show Wait Wait Don't Tell Me, they were discussing another apparatly failsafe pickup line: "This time next year, let's be laughing together."

REVEALED: THE WORLD'S BEST CHAT-UP LINE
Nov 2 2004
By Vanessa Allen
IT'S the world's greatest chat-up line... or so scientists tell us.
The eggheads - possibly not the best people to ask - claim the phrase most likely impress a woman is: "This time next year, let's be laughing together."
They say it is superior to the cheesy one-liners used by your average romeo as it works on a psychological level.
The words "this time next year" indicate the man wants long-term love, not just a one-night stand.
And "laughing together" suggests a shared bond that will be as strong a year from now, Japanese experts say.
The supposedly irresistible line was devised by a 10-strong panel in Tokyo that included psychologists, professors - and Takaaki Ishibashi, host of the country's version of Blind Date,
Their deliberations were covered extensively on Japanese TV and, thankfully, come just in time for the Christmas party season.
But with Japan's birth rate at a record low, some cynics might suggest Japanese men need all the help they can get. Our legendary British lotharios certainly don't. Take Rod Stewart, who famously wooed ex-wife Rachel Hunter with the bizarre line: "What have you got in the basket, love?"
Or nightclub owner Peter Stringfellow, who favours: "Hi, gorgeous, I'm Peter Stringfellow and I own the place."
Hmm... perhaps not. What was that Japanese phrase again?
