Nice thread, irate. It is hip to be down on western religion. I think critics of christianity very often make the mistake of treating the whole of christianity as if it is completely ideologically consistent. It is not. These arguments can be summarized by, "I don't like christians/christianity because they do this". This kind of argument is fundamentally flawed, not all christians are the same.
I'm not really christian, but i know that there are plenty of good people who are christian just as there are many bad people who are christian. The common connection between them is not that they are christian, but that they are human.
Besides, any of the common criticism of christianity could be easily applied to athiests or agnostics. Do many of them proselytize? Yes. Are many of them philosophically ethnocentric? Yes. Are many of them completely unable to see wisdom in a religious perspective that they don't share? Yes.
