We went through our challanging phase very early, the majority of relationships have them at some point, and ended up stronger for the experience. I consider myself extremely fortunate.

SCrubjay, I could've written this except for the short dating part. My wife is Dutch, and I am Texan. We knew each other for 5 years before we got married, but we lived on different sides of the Atlantic. I saw her three times in three years, and on the third time we got married. We, too, just passed our 16th wedding anniversary. The first years were the hardest. Today, there is no doubt that our relationship is stronger than ever. One thing you didn't mention: sex. Sex with my wife is definately better than ever. We also do it more now than we did in the first ten years of marriage. Like you, I think I'm more blessed than I deserve. I'm just about the happiest person I know. Life is good.
