I checked, you might be able to do this without a fume hood. The disposal for this is very easy, just washes down the sink. I found this at http://chemlearn.chem.indiana.edu/demos/TheOsci.htm.

Clean Up: Neutralize the iodine by reducing it to iodide. Add about 10 g of Sodium Thiosulfate to the mixture and stir until the mixture becomes colorless. Caution: the reaction between iodine and thiosulfate is exothermic and the mixture may be hot. The cooled, neutralized mixture should be washed down the drain with water.
