Folks in general get upset when the newbies ask questions, because many times their questions can be answered simply by reading the boards FAQ's and stickies that you find on the top of each forum. And take a look at the Tilted Newbies board too, there is a lot of useful information there.
As far as posts, as was stated already, some areas (like Tilted Nonsense) do not count towards your post count. But really, post count DOES NOT MATTER. Nobody cares if you have 5 or 5,000 posts.
In order to find your post count, you can just click on your own name in a thread. Like right now I see you have 6 posts.
